The Economist Group us currently looking for an analyst who will be responsible for the production of reports covering several European economies. The Job location is London – United Kingdom.


In the role you will be expected to:

  • Be responsible for finding, commissioning and managing suitable contributors
  • To Carry out a comprehensive first edit on contributor’s input, checking accuracy, ensuring all the relevant information is presented in accordance with EIU style guide and product guidelines
  • Write and/or re-write material where a contributor’s original copy is sub-standard or incomplete
  • Originate material not covered by contributors
  • Be responsible for the integrity and objectivity of the analysis and interpretation of events and information, ensuring that all sources are properly referenced in line with company policy and copyright laws
  • To conduct the degree of background research necessary to ensure the accuracy and timeliness of the information
  • To draw attention to the salient points and summarise the potential consequences of developments in an objective and informative way. With clear, concise and internally consistent analysis
  • To produce economic and political forecasts making full use of all available information Take responsibility for the quality and accuracy of the data included in the individual country workbooks
  • Work closely with the Economics Unit and revise economic data as appropriate
  • Join in discussions on the implications of the EIU’s global assumptions and events affecting the region
  • Respond to customer queries over the telephone and e-mail providing explanation and clarification regarding information contained in our publications
  • Commission contributors

Experience, skills and professional attributes:

To succeed in the role you must have:

  • Relevant degree in Economics, International Relations or related subject
  • Ideally Masters degree (or equivalent)
  • Experience in writing political and economic analysis for a business audience
  • Knowledge of politics and economics of countries of Europe
  • Familiar with CA product range
  • Basic understanding of the external market demand for electronic delivery of country analysis and our competitors would be an advantage
  • Fluency in English; Knowledge of a local language would be an advantage but not essential
  • Experience in analysis and forecasting of political and economic trends
  • Experience in economic analysis
  • Proven ability of writing and editing
